we are excited to cast our next production Curating premiering at The Old Red Lion Theatre in November
PLAY SUMMARY
A desk, two chairs, and a mountain of paperwork — not exactly how Freya pictured the afterlife. As she scrambles to make sense of her unfinished life before the final deadline, an unexpected encounter with a taxidermist from 1898 may hold the answers they’ve both been searching for.
Curating is a dark comedy about the choices we make (or lack thereof), the eternal purgatory of admin, and what is left when we've run out of time. Think existential HR meeting — with biscuits!
CASTING BREAKDOWNS
JOHN
(Male, 29)
A Victorian taxidermist with a gentle presence and grounded energy. Earnest, observant, and warm, John is deeply affected by the family he left behind and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. He’s thoughtful and compassionate, with a quiet strength that anchors the play’s more chaotic characters.
MATILDA
(Female, 25-40)
Matilda is a laid-back, charismatic, rule-bending Curator also appearing to be from the 1800s, who’s more interested in flirting and fun than paperwork. Irreverent, quick-witted, and a bit chaotic, she’s the antithesis of her modern-day colleague.
The character’s age is non-descript. Lean into your strengths!
We highly encourage actors from the global majority to audition for these roles!
PRODUCTION DATES & PAYMENT
Performance Dates:
4 shows in the first two weeks of November. Exact dates TBC at recall.
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will take place throughout October 2025 and will be scheduled based on cast availability.
Payment:
£50 per performance, per actor (4 performances total - Total £200)
Much like our first production SPENT, this show is planned to transfer to another venue for an extended run in 2026.
